Top RB Prospect Paid Texans a Visit
The running back room of the Houston Texans will look very different in 2024 after they traded for Joe Mixon to replace Devin Singletary in free agency.
With the draft approaching and the team allegedly still needing more backfield support, the RB room makeover may not end there.
Ray Davis, a running back for Kentucky, recently visited the Texans as part of a pre-draft visit, according to Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2.
The fifth-year senior is coming off a great season in Lexington, when he gained 1,129 yards on 199 ground rushes and 14 touchdowns.
33 throws for 323 yards and seven more touchdowns were caught by him as well.
Before moving to Kentucky, Davis played for two years at Temple and then another two at Vanderbilt.
Davis, who is 5’8″ and 211 pounds, ran a 4.52 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine.
Due to his high floor and low ceiling as a running back plus the fact that he is already 24 years old, Davis is predicted to be selected in the late second or maybe early third round.
His effective, uncomplicated running style would be a great replacement for Devin Singletary, and this team doesn’t currently have a third-down back with his pass-catching abilities, as Dameon Pierce’s game doesn’t focus much on it.
Speaking of Pierce, he is still younger than Ray Davis even after playing in the league for two years.
Although older running back prospects don’t usually go very high in the draft, Houston would be fortunate to get Davis because of his impressive college career.
