Ja’Tavion Sanders, a tight end with the Texas Longhorns, has settled into the NFL.
Outstanding tight end for the Texas Longhorns Ja’Tavion Sanders is renowned for possessing a special blend of talent, speed, and size.
Now that the Carolina Panthers selected him with the No. 101 overall choice in the second round, he is formally bringing those qualities to the next level.
Sanders joins Byron Murphy, Xavier Worthy, T’Vondre Sweat, Jonathan Brooks, and Adonai Mitchell as the sixth Longhorn to score a touchdown.
Sanders has shown to be one of the best prospects in the 2024 NFL Draft, racking up over 45 receptions and 600 receiving yards in his last two college seasons. With his conventional tight end size at 6-foot-4 and 245 pounds, he can challenge defenders on numerous levels thanks to his athleticism.
Ja’Tavion Sanders finished the 2023 season rated 17th among tight ends in yards per route run, 13th in PFF receiving grade, and 14th in yards after catch per reception.
Sanders placed 18th in PFF receiving grade, 70th in yards after catch per reception, and 22nd in yards per route run during the 2022 season. These numbers demonstrate his growth as a receiving threat in 2023 and his progress.
Sanders is well-known for his receiving abilities, but he also possesses the blocking ability to be a useful blocker, particularly when facing linebackers and defensive backs on the outside.
He fails to translate his stature into power, thus he needs to work on his blocking at the line of scrimmage. This is a problem that has to be addressed, as are his sporadic stiffness when running routes and his inconsistent boxing out of defenders.
He is now bringing those abilities to Carolina, where he intends to immediately contribute the next season with Bryce Young throwing the football to him and his college friend Jonathan Brooks.
