Breaking: Former Cleveland Browns Pro Bowler and starter signs with Buffalo Bills
A Pro Bowl-caliber talent is being added by the Buffalo Bills in advance of the 2024 campaign. After a fire sale in March to meet their cap requirement for free agency, the Bills wanted to add talent before OTA workouts began this spring.
This offseason, the Buffalo Bills lost a number of important players.
Tre’Davious White, Nyheim Hines, Deonte Harty, Siran Neal, and released Jordan Poyer were all lost by the Bills. They also traded Stefon Diggs to the Houston Texans and lost free agent Gabe Davis to the Jacksonville Jaguars. Despite those setbacks, general manager Brandon Beane of the Bills believes the team can turn things around and contend in 2024.
Deion Jones joins the Buffalo Bills
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Bills have added a seasoned player to their reload. Deion Jones, a linebacker, is joining them on a one-year contract.
In the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft, Jones was taken by the Atlanta Falcons. In 2022, Jones was dealt by the Falcons to the Cleveland Browns. For the 2023 campaign, he inked a contract with the Carolina Panthers.
In his eight years in the NFL, Jones, now 29 years old, has made 91 starts and participated in 109 games. In that time, the 222-pound, six-foot-one linebacker has racked up 731 total tackles, 12 sacks, 13 interceptions, 53 passes defended, and five forced fumbles.
Pro Football Focus gave Jones’ performance from the previous season an overall grade of 66.3. He received a 43.8 for his poor performance in run defense. He has had superior grades (72.8) and (76.7) in coverage and pass rush (causing opposing quarterbacks to have a rating of 57.8). He might be an important defender on clear passing downs.
