The Buffalo Bills are running out of time to make the most of their incredibly talented team, which is led by one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL in Josh Allen. They must find a way to unseat Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC, or they risk losing it.
The team has advanced to the postseason in each of the previous five seasons, with two (13-3) and two (11-6) results in that time. However, they have only advanced to the AFC Championship round once in the previous five seasons.
Josh Allen and the Bills advanced to the AFC Championship game in 2020, but Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs—who have since evolved into their invincible opponent—destroyed them. The Buffalo Bills lost the Divisional round 2021 after forcing the Chiefs into overtime.
They lost to the Bengals in the Divisional Round the following season, and last year, following an easy victory over the Steelers to start the playoffs, they were once again defeated by the Chiefs in the Divisional Round, losing by a narrow 27-24 margin.
Though they haven’t succeeded when it matters most, the Bills have come the closest of any club to overthrowing the NFL’s newest dynasty.
For Buffalo, the 2024 season seems even more important than previous ones. It seems like Sean McDermott has to show this year that he can win a Super Bowl and break the bad habits this club has been dealing with.
The Buffalo Bills are starting a new NFL season without one of their most potent weapons from the previous four years, regardless of what happens after 2024. In a move that shocked NFL insiders, Stefon Diggs, who with Josh Allen formed one of the top QB/WR tandems in the league, was moved to the Houston Texans.
Diggs has been as reliable as any wide receiver in the game, registering over 1,000 receiving yards in six consecutive seasons—the past four of which he spent in Buffalo. In each of his four seasons with the Bills, he scored at least eight touchdowns, and that sort of talent is hard to replace quickly.
Gabe Davis, who became Allen’s second-best target and ended the previous two seasons with at least 750 receiving yards and seven touchdowns in 2022 and 2023, was also released by the Buffalo Bills.
Keon Coleman of Florida State was selected by the Buffalo brass in the first round of the April NFL Draft in an attempt to address the big gap at wideout. Although Coleman appears ready to contribute immediately as the team’s number one wideout, there are no guarantees when it comes to making the jump from college to the NFL. Buffalo added Curtis Samuel, who just ended with at least 600 receiving yards and four touchdowns with Washington in back-to-back seasons, in addition to Coleman.
A seasoned wideout who can line up at all the receiver positions and serve as the No. 3 option is what the Bills need. And they are hosting a guy who precisely matches that description, according to ESPN Insider Adam Schefter.
Buffalo Bills vs. Chiefs Wide Receiver Marquez-Valdez Scantling The Bills are visiting receiver
Marquez Valdes-Scantling in Buffalo as a free agent, according to Schefter’s Monday report.
It was Valdes-Scantling’s (29), first documented visit to the Chargers last week.
He had involvement on 618 offensive snaps in 16 games, 10 of which he started, for the Kansas City Chiefs in 2023. 21 passes were caught by Valdes-Scantling for 315 yards and a touchdown.
Why not remove one of the Chiefs’ targets if the Buffalo Bills are going to defeat them?
Valdes-Scantling caught eight catches for 128 yards and a touchdown in four postseason games. His touchdown in the Chiefs’ Super Bowl triumph over the 49ers came on a third-quarter 16-yard pass that put the team ahead 13–10.
Valdes-Scantling has spent the last two seasons with the Chiefs after spending the previous four with the Packers. He has 186 receptions for 3,155 yards and 16 touchdowns.
To fill that room, the Buffalo Bills need a receiver exactly like this one. He shouldn’t be allowed to leave the building by Brandon Beane and company.
