Move Lady Vols are set to welcome Vanesa Suarez.
KNOXVILLE, Tennessee – junior move-in Head coach Alison Ojeda of the Tennessee women’s tennis team said on Monday night that Vanesa Suarez is the newest member of the team.
The native of Valencia, Venezuela, will enroll in the Lady Vols program in 2024–2025 after two more years of college eligibility.
Head coach Alison Ojeda stated, “We are thrilled to have Vanesa on our team.” “She will bring some experience to our program and most importantly, she fits the culture we work hard for.”
After playing for two seasons at Kansas State, where she was selected in the spring of 2023 for the Big 12 All-Freshman Team, Suarez has come to Rocky Top. Playing mostly at No. 1 in one of the country’s top leagues, she recorded a 21-28 singles record during her time as a Wildcat.
Suarez trained at the Credito Real Tennis Center in Yucatan, Mexico, and graduated from Tecnologico de Monterrey in Mexico before becoming a successful collegiate player.
Associate head coach Matias Marin said, “We are very excited.” Vanessa is a good fit for our team and culture and has experience. She will keep assisting us in raising the bar for our program.”
She has competed in a number of high-profile tennis competitions over her career, including international tournaments, ITF tournaments, and the Junior Fed Cup Team. One of her noteworthy accomplishments was placing second in the doubles competition at the 2020 J4 Tampico Junior Open in Mexico. She also advanced to the J4 Guayaquil Junior Open semifinals in doubles in Ecuador in 2019. She won the U16 Singles Champion title in the USA’s Casely International Championship in 2018.
Suarez joins Natalia Perez, Conley Raidt, Brooklyn Schafer, and Saray Yli-Piipari as the fifth official signee for Tennessee’s 2024 recruiting class.
