Wolves reportedly had interest in Kevin Danso in the summer, and the player has now explained why he didn’t leave Lens.
The Austrian defender has been in English football before, playing for Southampton on loan in 2019/20.
And before that, he was in Reading and MK Dons’ academies.
There was a bit of speculation in the summer that Danso could make a move back to England, having impressed at Lens as he helped them make it into the Champions League.
Wolves were on the look out for a centre-back.
It was claimed that Wolves scouts went to watch him play against Marseille earlier this year, as well as Lois Openda and Seko Fofana.
In the end though, it was a bit of a non-starter for Wanderers…

Danso was on the radars of several clubs in the summer.
He had made big contributions to Lens in 2022/23 as they amazingly sealed a second placed finish, just one point behind Paris Saint-Germain.
L’Equipe have reported that Wolves did actually have interest in signing Danso in the last window. As did Brentford and Italian giants Napoli.
But the publication bring quotes from the player – and it’s clear there was never any real chance of him moving.
He said: “As I was coming out of a great season, a lot of clubs were interested [including Wolves and Brentford in England] but for me, the next step is to go to a Champions League club and play it with Lens. So, I didn’t really have a reason to leave, unless it was really the club you can’t refuse.”
Danso move was never likely for Wolves
It is no surprise that Wolves did not sign Danso in the summer.
It was a remarkable achievement for Lens to secure Champions League football for only the third time in their history.
Danso was always likely to stay put and play in the competition.
He played a huge part in the journey to get there, and wasn’t about to leave for a club that couldn’t offer any form of European football.
And last night, Danso made his second appearance in the competition against Arsenal. He put in a dominant display, prompting GFFN to give him an 8/10 rating and calling him ‘imposing’.
Wolves were also struggling financially. Danso was likely out of the club’s price range.
In the end, Wanderers landed Santiago Bueno right at the end of the window from Girona for a reported £8.5 million.
