Kieran Tripper has revealed he was unhappy with his son’s Kylian Mbappe comment ahead of Newcastle United’s Champions League clash against Paris Saint Germain.
After securing a hard-fought 0-0 draw against AC Milan in San Siro last time out, Eddie Howe’s Newcastle side are looking to record their first win of the 23/24 Champions League against PSG.
The French giants will kick off as the favourites to win the match with all eyes glued on superstar forward Mbappe.
Ahead of the match, Magpies defender Trippier has revealed what his son said about Mbappe. You can watch the footage below.
He said: “I was having a bit of banter with him (Tripper’s son) last night, and he said he wanted to walk out with Mbappe instead of me.
“I wasn’t really happy with that! He’s obsessed with him, he’s always watching his clips on YouTube.”
Trippier continued: “I said to him ‘if you get to walk out with Mbappe, you don’t look at me in the tunnel!”
Trippier went on to recall the times that he has come up against Mbappe.
He said: “I played against him – I think it might have been his debut game for Monaco – when I was at Tottenham, and I played against him for England on my debut. It’s quite a few years ago.
“This is football. These are the games you want as a player, playing in the Champions League, playing against the best players, the best teams. Paris have got unbelievable players in the team.”
The 33-year-old added: “Of course we need to recognise that Mbappe is one of the best players in the world, but they’ve got quality all over the pitch and we can’t be too fixed on them.
“We need to play our way because on our day, we can hurt anyone.”
