Latest Birmingham City news from BirminghamLive includes what John Eustace has said about the Rangers job.
Rangers are stepping up their search for a new manager after sacking Michael Beale over the weekend – and Birmingham City boss John Eustace continues to be linked with the job.
Eustace was connected to Rangers last month after Blues’ impressive start to the Championship season. Results have deteriorated for Blues since, but they returned to winning ways on Tuesday by beating Huddersfield Town 4-1.
A new report from Sky Sports claims Eustace is among four managers interested in the vacancy. The others being the jobless Frank Lampard, Kevin Muscat – who currently manages Japanese side Yokahoma Marinos – and AZ Alkmaar chief Pascal Jansen.
However, Eustace insisted he isn’t interested in the Rangers job when he was asked about it last month. “That’s not a job that interests me at all,” he said. “I am very proud and honoured to be the Birmingham City manager and I want to help grow this football club for as long as I can.”
Birmingham-born Eustace is keen to lead Blues up the Championship table under new owners Knighthead.
Speaking after Blues’ demolition of Huddersfield, Eustace said: “I came to the club to build something. Nothing is won or lost over four or five games. We had a fantastic start to the season and it’s very important no one gets carried away with a win. No one got carried away with no wins in five, although the performances were very good at times.
“It’s a 46-game season and we have all got to keep believing in what we are doing. There are going to be highs, there are going to be lows, and as long as everyone within the group stays level-headed and works hard, the results will come.”
