Report: Daniel Farke ‘shocked’ £11m player left Elland Road this summer.
Leeds United boss Daniel Farke was dealt a surprise this summer when he found out that Maximilian Wober would be leaving Elland Road.
A report from The Athletic has revealed that the 25-year-old pledged his future to the club despite relegation back to the Championship.
However, the situation took a dramatic turn which saw the defender approach Farke just 24 hours before a pre-season friendly against Monaco.
The Austrian informed the Leeds manager that he had changed his stance on his future, accepting a loan offer from German side Borussia Monchengladbach.
Life without Wober at Elland Road
Despite the departure of Wober, Farke’s side don’t seem to be missing the Austrian – keeping four clean sheets in their last five games.
Joe Rodon, Liam Cooper, Pascal Struijk and Sam Byram have all impressed in the backline for Leeds so far this season in the club’s quest for an immediate top-flight return.
Credit must be given to the new Leeds boss for the work he’s done in assembling a squad that can challenge for promotion to the Premier League, despite all the outgoings at Elland Road this summer.
They may have suffered a setback in losing to Southampton at the weekend, but they have the perfect chance to bounce back against QPR tonight.
Leeds aiming for a top-six spot tonight
If Farke’s side defeat QPR by more than two goals tonight, they could see themselves sat in a top-six position one game before the next international break.
They’re facing a side who are struggling and currently occupying a place in the relegation zone.
Tonight is a great opportunity for the likes of Joel Piroe and Georginio Rutter to continue their great form and help propel Leeds back into the fight for promotion.
