Lee Evans: Ipswich Town’s Wales international midfielder has MCL knee surgery
Ipswich Town midfielder Lee Evans faces “several months” out after undergoing knee surgery.
The 29-year-old Wales international suffered the medial collateral ligament injury 65 minutes into Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Huddersfield, his first league start of the season.
“Lee Evans, unfortunately, has an injury on his MCL. He’s going to have surgery,” said boss Kieran McKenna.
“He is a really important player and person for us, so we wish him well.”
The four-time capped former Wolves and Wigan Athletic player suffered the same injury almost a year ago, in Ipswich’s 1-0 League One win against Derby.
On that occasion, he did not have surgery and returned after two months out before then missing the final three months of the Tractor Boys’ promotion campaign.
“He’s had the issue a couple of times and hasn’t had the surgical repair,” added McKenna.
“He can fully recover and we’re confident this will set him on a better path for the next few years of his career.”
Ipswich returned to the top of the Championship table without Evans in Tuesday’s 3-0 home win over Hull City.
