Men’s Tennis Welcomes International Talent Sebastian Eriksson

Sebastian Eriksson, a top junior player from Stockholm, Sweden, is set to join the University of Texas Men’s Tennis team for the upcoming season.

**Austin** – The University of Texas Men’s Tennis team has announced the signing of international standout Sebastian Eriksson. Head coach Bruce Berque revealed on Tuesday that Eriksson has committed to the Longhorns by signing a National Letter of Intent (NLI) and an Athletic Scholarship Agreement (ASA). Eriksson will be part of the team in the next season.

“We are thrilled to have Sebastian join our team,” Berque stated. “He is one of the premier junior players globally, and we believe his game holds great potential for development at the college level and beyond. During his visit, he clicked well with our team, and I am confident he will positively impact our program over the next four years.”

Eriksson shared his reasons for choosing Texas: “The rich tennis history and the great impression from the coach and players made me choose the University of Texas. I believe it will be an excellent environment to grow as a player and compete for titles with a fantastic group of teammates.”

Eriksson, from Stockholm, Sweden, is ranked among the top juniors in the world with a career-high ranking of No. 21. His ATP rankings are career highs of No. 1246 in singles and No. 1560 in doubles.

In his junior career, Eriksson competed in all four major tournaments in singles and doubles last year. He reached the Round of 32 in singles at Roland Garros, Wimbledon, and the U.S. Open, and the Round of 64 at the Australian Open. In doubles, he advanced to the Round of 32 in all four majors and reached the Round of 16 at Wimbledon. In 2022, he played both singles and doubles at Roland Garros, reaching the Round of 64 and the Round of 16, respectively.

Eriksson has claimed six junior singles titles, most recently winning the J500 Offenbach in Germany in 2023 by winning eight consecutive matches. He also reached the semifinals of the J500 Orange Bowl International Championships in December. In 2021, he won five titles, including three consecutive tournaments: the J4 Frederiksberg in Denmark, and the J4 Bromma and J4 Kramfors in Sweden, winning 15 straight matches. Additionally, he won the J5 Hilversum in the Netherlands and the J5 Sarajevo in Bosnia and Herzegovina, securing eight consecutive wins in both tournaments from qualifying.

In doubles, Eriksson has secured five titles, three in 2023 and two in 2021. Last year, he won the J500 Merida in Mexico, the J300 Bamberg in Germany, and the J200 Valencia in Spain. In 2021, he won both singles and doubles at the J4 Frederiksberg and the J5 Doboj in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
