Done Deal: Just In Texas Longhorns Confirm The Signing Of Another Top Experienced Man

Sebastian Gorzny is signed by Men’s Tennis.Texas’s Austin Bruce Berque, the head coach of Texas Men’s Tennis, revealed on Friday that Sebastian Gorzny has signed an Athletic Scholarship Agreement (ASA). Gorzny, a transfer from TCU, will be a junior with two years left of eligibility when he joins the Longhorns. Gorzny is an ITA All-American in doubles this year, a two-time second-team All-Big 12 selection, and the 2023 Big 12 Freshman of the Year.

“We are thrilled Sebastian will be a Longhorn for the last two years of his collegiate career,” Berque stated. “He is a superb player who has triumphed at every stage of his tennis career, as we know from experience. We’ve learned more about him over the past week as we’ve gotten to know him better, including how passionate he is about tennis and his long-term objectives in the game. We are excited for him to become a member of our team and support him as he pursues his objectives in collegiate and professional tennis.”

“I’m excited to become a Longhorn and for the athletic and academic opportunities at the University of Texas,” Gorzny stated. “I’m looking forward to what the next two years will bring and can’t wait to get started.”

Austin native Gorzny finished his two seasons at TCU with an overall doubles record of 44-14, including 32-10 in dual match play. He also posted a 37-10 overall singles record and was 27-6 in dual matches. During that period, Gorzny assisted TCU in winning the 2023 ITA National Indoor Championship as well as the 2024 NCAA National Championship.

This previous season, Gorzny had an ailment that kept him out of the game for a month and a half from late March to early May, but he still managed a 16-7 singles record overall, including 10-4 in dual matches, where he primarily played at No. 4. At No. 5 singles and No. 2 doubles, he earned positions on the NCAA Championship All-Tournament Team to round up team play. In the singles rankings, he peaked at No. 30 following fall play and ended at No. 67.

Gorzny had an overall doubles record of 24-7, including a 14-3 record in dual matches. In the NCAA Doubles Championship, he and Pedro Vives received a 5-8 seed, earning them ITA All-American status and sending them to the Round of 16. Along with finishing at No. 14 nationally, the pair was also selected to the second team of the Big 12 and had ranked as high as No. 2 during the season. Gorzny and Vives finished in the semifinals of the ITA National Fall Championships, won the ITA Texas Regionals, and combined for an 18-6 record. In the final six games of the dual match season, Gorzny and Jack Pinnington were the starting doubles pairing for TCU after a lineup change.

Gorzny, who won the Big 12 Freshman of the Year award in 2023, guided TCU to wins in both the singles and doubles dual match matches, going 17-2 and 18-7, respectively. He won his first 13 dual match matches and finished 20-7 in pairs competition in 2022–2023; overall, he was 21-3 in singles. He peaked at No. 63 in the singles rankings and ended the season at No. 84, while he peaked at No. 73 in the doubles rankings and ended up at No. 82 overall. Gorzny, ranked No. 5 singles and No. 3 doubles, was selected to the All-Tournament team after TCU emerged victorious in the ITA National Indoor Championship.

Gorzny reached the third round of the main singles draw and won the 2022 Wimbledon Junior Doubles Championship prior to attending TCU. In addition, he received a wild card into the U.S. Open 2022 main doubles event. He reached a career-high juniors ranking of No. 38 in that year, and TennisRecruiting.net ranked him as the nation’s third-best prospect.
