**SF Giants Add Minnesota Twins’ 2020 2nd-Round Pick on Minors Pact**
The San Francisco Giants have bolstered their outfield depth by signing Alerick Soularie, the Minnesota Twins’ 2020 second-round pick, to a minor league contract. Soularie has been assigned to the Arizona Complex League, as per the team’s transaction log.
This marks the second minor league outfielder added by the Giants in the past week, reflecting ongoing concerns about outfield depth due to a series of injuries. The upper minors have been particularly affected, with both Chase Pinder and Yusniel Díaz on the injured list in Sacramento, Díaz having been moved to the minor league 60-day injured list.
The Giants’ major league roster has also suffered injuries, with Jung Hoo Lee out for the season and Michael Conforto and Austin Slater sidelined. Luis Matos has been stepping in as a replacement in center field. Additionally, Heliot Ramos has had a strong start with the Giants, slashing .292/.370/.431 with two home runs and 13 RBIs over 81 plate appearances. His performance suggests he won’t be returning to the minors soon, creating further vacancies that need filling.
Soularie, who received a $900,000 signing bonus from the Twins, has yet to consistently perform at a high level. Over parts of four minor league seasons, he has posted a .225/.344/.378 line, surpassing the 10-homer mark in both 2022 and 2023. This season, he recorded a .598 OPS in 88 Double-A plate appearances before being released.
In the field, the 24-year-old has primarily played corner outfield positions, with some time in center field and second base. Despite his speed and arm strength making him a serviceable outfielder, he hasn’t played second base since 2022. Soularie’s power is limited by his closed-off stance, which prevents him from pulling the ball effectively in the air.
He will initially get playing time in Rookie Ball before being assigned to a more appropriate level within the Giants’ organization.
