**Derby (KS) Cornerback Martel Jackson Commits to Kansas State**
Martel Jackson, a cornerback from Derby, Kansas, has committed to Kansas State shortly after receiving his first offer from the Wildcats earlier this summer. Jackson’s recruitment picked up momentum following his standout performance at K-State’s first summer camp on May 30th, leading to an official visit on June 7th, where he ultimately decided to commit.
Previously an under-the-radar prospect, Jackson’s profile was relatively low in the recruiting world until his impressive camp showing. With minimal presence on social media, his recruitment surged as Kansas State’s coaching staff focused on him, recognizing the need to secure his commitment before other schools showed interest later in the season.
Jackson’s early commitment is a significant win for Kansas State, who entered the summer with only three commitments. His pledge makes him the fourth commit and the first from Kansas under head coach Chris Klieman. Jackson boasts impressive athletic metrics, including a 39-inch vertical jump, a 4.38-second 40-yard dash, and a 10.6-second 100-meter dash, highlighting his track prowess after overcoming an injury the previous year.
Reflecting on his progress, Jackson credited his improvement to rigorous conditioning and supportive coaches, as reported by the Derby Informer. On the football field, he recorded 38 tackles last fall, displaying strong man-to-man coverage skills at 6’2″ and 175 pounds. His length and speed suggest potential as a safety, but Kansas State plans to utilize him as a cornerback, fitting the mold of former Wildcats like Julius Brents and Will Lee.
Despite being unranked by 247Sports, Jackson is the fourth-highest-ranked commit in Kansas State’s 2025 class and the second defensive player to commit to defensive coordinator Joe Klanderman. For more updates on Martel Jackson and the 2025 recruiting class, stay tuned to GoPowercat.
