LSU baseball has secured Wofford’s top pitcher from the transfer portal. Right-handed pitcher Zac Cowan has committed to LSU, as confirmed by a source to The Advocate.
In 2024, Cowan was Wofford’s standout pitcher, achieving a 10-2 record with a 3.35 ERA over 110 innings. He started 17 games, completed three, and struck out 124 batters this season.
Cowan did not face LSU in the Chapel Hill regional but delivered six shutout innings against Long Island, leading to a 5-2 win. This was his sole appearance in the regional.
LSU coach Jay Johnson praised Cowan before the Chapel Hill regional, describing him as a converted position player and a highly skilled athlete with a consistent delivery. Johnson highlighted Cowan’s elite change-up and excellent control of his fastball, noting his ability to pitch both within and outside the strike zone effectively.
Earlier reports suggested LSU also acquired Wofford right-handed pitcher Camden Wicker from the transfer portal. However, The Advocate has clarified that Wicker has not committed to LSU.
Cowan is the third transfer portal addition for LSU, joining Indiana State first baseman Luis Hernandez and South Florida right-handed pitcher Chandler Dorsey. Additionally, the Tigers have commitments from five junior college players for the next season.
LSU has seen nine players enter the transfer portal, including outfielder Paxton Kling, left-handed pitcher Cam Johnson, and right-handed pitcher Aiden Moffett.
