**Canes Re-Sign Chatfield to Three-Year Contract**
**Defenseman Achieves Career Highs in Goals, Assists, and Points in 2023-24**
RALEIGH, NC – Eric Tulsky, the Interim General Manager of the Carolina Hurricanes, announced that the team has re-signed defenseman Jalen Chatfield to a three-year, $9 million contract extension. Chatfield will earn an average annual value (AAV) of $3 million through the 2026-27 season.
“Jalen has been a crucial part of our defense over the last two seasons and has solidified his place as an NHL defenseman,” said Tulsky. “His exceptional speed and relentless work ethic make him a highly dynamic player on both ends of the ice.”
Chatfield, 28, achieved career highs with 22 points (8 goals, 14 assists) in 72 NHL games with the Hurricanes during the 2023-24 season. He set personal records in goals, assists, points, even-strength goals (8), even-strength points (22), blocked shots (66), and average ice time per game (15:12). Among Hurricanes defensemen, he ranked third in goals, second in even-strength goals, and tied for first in game-winning goals (2). In the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs, he contributed two assists and 11 hits in 11 games. Over his NHL career, Chatfield has accumulated 40 points (14 goals, 26 assists) in 184 games with Vancouver and Carolina since the 2020-21 season, including 39 points (14 goals, 25 assists) in 166 games with the Hurricanes over the past three seasons. In the AHL, he tallied 35 points (8 goals, 27 assists) in 186 games with Chicago and Utica from 2017-22 and added eight points (2 goals, 6 assists) in 18 playoff games during the Wolves’ 2022 Calder Cup run. A native of Ypsilanti, Mich., Chatfield recorded 86 points (19 goals, 67 assists) in 189 OHL games with Windsor from 2014-17, serving as an alternate captain in his final season and helping the Spitfires win the Memorial Cup as CHL champions. Originally signed by Vancouver as an undrafted free agent on March 13, 2017, Chatfield joined the Hurricanes as a free agent on July 30, 2021.
