Roderic Teamer to Join New Orleans Saints on One-Year Deal
The New Orleans Saints are set to add a familiar face to their roster. According to multiple reports, safety Roderic Teamer, a New Orleans native, is signing a one-year contract with the team.
Teamer, 27, recently participated in the Saints’ minicamp on a tryout basis, demonstrating his skills and earning a spot on the roster. His journey to the Saints, however, has been marked by several ups and downs.
Initially entering the NFL with the Los Angeles Chargers in 2019 as an undrafted free agent out of Tulane, Teamer made an immediate impact. He appeared in seven games, starting six of them, during his rookie season. Despite his promising start, Teamer’s career faced a setback in August 2020 when he was waived by the Chargers following a suspension for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy.
In 2021, Teamer briefly joined the Indianapolis Colts during the offseason before signing with the Las Vegas Raiders in June. With the Raiders, Teamer appeared in 10 games during the 2021 season. He followed this with a full 17-game season in 2022, primarily contributing on special teams.
Teamer’s time with the Raiders ended on a sour note when he was arrested for DUI in November 2022, leading to his release from the team. This incident may still result in disciplinary action from the NFL, which could impact his availability for the Saints.
Despite these challenges, the Saints see potential in Teamer, particularly given his local roots and previous professional experience. His signing provides depth to New Orleans’ secondary and special teams units. For Teamer, this represents an opportunity to revive his career and make a meaningful contribution to his hometown team.
As the Saints prepare for the upcoming season, Teamer’s addition could prove to be a valuable move. His experience and familiarity with the city could help him quickly adapt and become a key player for New Orleans.
