Done Deal: Just In Another Top Talented Highly Rated 5-Stars Commits To Alabama Football Team

Five-star linebacker Dawson Merritt has announced his commitment to Alabama and head coach Kalen DeBoer. Merritt, from Blue Valley in Overland Park, Kansas, chose Alabama over Nebraska after an official visit to Tuscaloosa earlier this month.

“Coach DeBoer is an exceptional head coach,” Merritt told On3. “He’s very personable and has a clear vision for the team. Everything he promised is starting to materialize, and I’m thrilled for everyone to witness his work this season.

His achievements at Washington were impressive, and now he has all the resources at Alabama. With a 104-12 record as a head coach, there’s no reason he won’t succeed with everything set up for him at Alabama. His support staff is outstanding, and the entire program is on another level compared to any other I’ve visited.”

The 6-foot-3, 215-pound Merritt is ranked as the No. 7 linebacker in the 2025 On300 and the No. 62 overall player in the country, according to 247Sports.

In a significant in-state recruiting victory, Alabama also secured a commitment from Vigor offensive tackle Micah Debose on Saturday. Debose had initially committed to Georgia in January 2023 but decommitted in December. Merritt is now Alabama’s 19th commitment for the 2025 class.
