**Yankees Designate Former Dodgers Pitcher for Assignment**
The New York Yankees designated former Los Angeles Dodgers reliever Phil Bickford for assignment on Sunday, as confirmed by the team on X (formerly Twitter).
Bickford’s minor league contract was added to the Yankees’ roster on June 21, but the veteran right-hander struggled, allowing eight earned runs over five innings in five appearances. In a corresponding move, the Yankees promoted Josh Maciejewski from Triple-A.
Most of the damage against Bickford occurred on Saturday when he gave up five runs in just two-thirds of an inning during the Yankees’ 9-3 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays.
This marks Bickford’s third trip to the waiver wire in his career. With no options left, the Yankees had to designate him for assignment and risk losing him on waivers before they can remove him from the 40-man roster.
Bickford leaves the Yankees with a high ERA of 14.40, albeit from a small sample size. Over parts of five MLB seasons, he holds a record of 11-8 with a 4.70 ERA, two saves, 21 holds, and 208 strikeouts in 185.2 innings.
The former first-round pick of the San Francisco Giants debuted with the Milwaukee Brewers and spent parts of 2021 and 2022 with the Dodgers.
