**Miami Football Trending for Former 4-Star USC Safety Commit Hylton Stubbs**
After decommitting from USC on Thursday, four-star safety Hylton Stubbs is now leaning towards joining the Miami football program. Predictions from Chad Simmons and Steve Wiltfong of On3, along with Tom Loy and Gaby Urrutia of 247Sports, all favor Miami for Stubbs.
The On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine currently projects Miami as the strong favorite for Stubbs, with a 79.2 percent chance of commitment, while Florida trails with a 17.3 percent chance. Other schools, including USC, have less than a two percent chance.
Stubbs visited Miami officially the weekend of June 21, after three previous unofficial visits to Coral Gables. He also visited USC on the weekend of May 31 and Florida on June 14 for official visits. Stubbs initially committed to USC in March but has now reconsidered.
According to the 247Sports composite rankings, Stubbs is the 56th overall prospect, the sixth-ranked safety, and the ninth-ranked player in Florida for the 2025 class. Stubbs has stated he will announce his decision between Florida and Miami on July 4.
In June, Miami secured commitments from cornerbacks Timothy Merritt and Chris Ewald, and safety Amari Wallace. Adding Stubbs would make him the highest-ranked player in Miami’s 2025 recruiting class by over 100 spots nationally.
Currently, linebacker Elijah Melendez is the top-ranked commit in Miami’s 2025 class, at 135th nationally. A commitment from Stubbs would elevate Miami’s class ranking from 17th to 14th nationally.
Stubbs would significantly bolster a Miami secondary set to feature two new starting safeties in 2024. Four-star 2024 safety signee Zaquan Patterson is expected to compete for significant playing time this season. Washington transfer Mishael Powell, who has one year of eligibility remaining, will also contribute.
With Patterson, Stubbs, and Wallace, Miami would have three blue-chip safeties for the future. Safety is one of the last positions head coach Mario Cristobal aims to strengthen through high school recruiting, and the 2025 Miami class is shaping up to have one of the best secondaries nationally.
