Boston Bruins Enhance Size with Signing of Former First-Round Pick
Boston Bruins General Manager Don Sweeney announced the signing of unrestricted free agent forward Max Jones to a two-year, $2 million contract on Monday. Jones, who scored five goals and ten assists with a minus-6 rating this season with the Anaheim Ducks, brings significant size and toughness to the Bruins lineup. The 6-foot-3, 216-pound left-winger aligns with the team’s recent trend, following the signing of defenseman Nikita Zadorov.
Jones, 26, was a first-round pick by Anaheim in 2016, selected 24th overall, and has spent the last six seasons with the Ducks. The Rochester, Michigan native has accumulated 31 goals, 31 assists, and 211 penalty minutes in 258 regular-season games. He has yet to appear in a postseason game. This season, Jones delivered 127 hits while averaging 12:03 of ice time per game.
Known for his physical and aggressive playing style, Jones isn’t afraid to play on the edge. During his time with the London Knights in the Ontario Hockey League, he served a 12-game suspension for a hit to the head. The Bruins also added size and toughness through the Linus Ullmark trade, acquiring bottom-six center Mark Kastelic from the Ottawa Senators. Jones, Kastelic, and John Beecher could form a fast, hard-hitting trio on the Bruins’ fourth line for the 2024-25 season.
