Due to discomfort in his left groin, Minnesota Twins star Royce Lewis had to leave Tuesday night’s game against the Detroit Tigers. Lewis blasted a two-run double in the sixth inning, which is when the injury happened. Because of the injury’s direct effect on his mobility, he was clearly running at most half his usual speed.
Lewis stated during the game that he was going to imaging to determine the extent of his injuries. He was also gloomy about his chances of avoiding time on the injured list.
Lewis told reporters on Tuesday that he was “probably not very optimistic, to be honest with you,” regarding his odds of avoiding the IL. “I’m praying, but the news is usually bad.” So let’s see.”
Lewis, a 25-year-old, is arguably the sport’s most seasoned player. Despite being a superstar-caliber player his whole career, injuries have prevented him from playing in even 100 major league games since he was selected first overall in the 2017 draft. For example, he has hit.292/.354/.685 in 24 games this year, with 10 home runs and five more extra-base hits.
Lewis sustained a partly torn quadriceps on Opening Day, which caused him to miss two months of action earlier in the season. He also suffered two ACL tears in the same leg in the past.
With a 48-37 season record going into Wednesday, the Twins are in second place in the American League Central. The Twins are now in second place in the American League wild card standings, but they are six games behind the unexpected Cleveland Guardians. Minnesota leads the Boston Red Sox by two and the Kansas City Royals by two and a half games, respectively.
