General manager Brian Gutekunst of the Green Bay Packers will be considering trade proposals for veterans, including fan favorites like Kenny Clark, as the team prepares for training camp.
Before training camp began, Alex Ballentine of Bleacher Report analyzed the top trade targets for Green Bay. AJ Dillon, a fan favorite, and Royce Newman, a struggling offensive lineman, were on the list.
Ballentine also presented a scenario in which Clark is released by the Packers.
Ballentine noted, “Clark was about the same age as Davante Adams when the Packers traded him to the Raiders.” “It might make sense for the Packers to move on and replenish their draft pick coffers if Clark’s terms for a new contract are too rich for what they want to pay.”
In the past, the Packers have shown a willingness to let go of established talents. If the two are unable to come to an agreement, Clark might be the next to depart Green Bay.
Update on the Contract for Kenny Clark
Luckily for Packers supporters, it appears that Clark and the group are in agreement.
During offseason exercises, Clark had a brief conversation with media on contract negotiations. He seemed confident that a deal will be reached even though he avoided getting into specifics.
Clark stated, “Talks have taken place.” “They are still in progress and continue to have conversations.”
Clark immediately said “100%” when asked if he wanted to stay in Green Bay, expressing his passion for the franchise and his teammates.
Nevertheless, the Packers will need to be prepared to pay a hefty price for Clark. Clark, who just completed his greatest season of the season, is 28 years old and has already been selected to three Pro Bowls. With a career-high 7.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, and three pass breakups at the end of the 2023 campaign, he impressed.
Clark might be requesting a deal from the Las Vegas Raiders that is comparable to what Christian Wilkins signed this offseason. A four-year, $110 million contract with roughly $85 million guaranteed was offered by the organization.
Clark might accept a small discount for being from his hometown. However, he should only be requesting a minimum of $20–25 million year during contract discussions.
The Other Big Contract Scenario for Green Bay
Clark is eagerly awaiting his next large paycheck. He isn’t the only Packers player, though, who is presently negotiating a deal with the organization.
The NFL’s most unusual contract extension negotiations are currently involving Jordan Love. In 2023, after being selected in the first round in the past, he was given the chance to start all games.
Love’s season didn’t start off well, but he turned things around in the second half and quickly established himself as one of the NFL’s best quarterbacks. In addition to scoring four more touchdowns on the ground, he concluded the season with 4,159 passing yards, 32 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions.
The main conundrum facing the Packers is what to give Love. With his stellar year-end performance, the quarterback for the Packers might push for a top-market deal. But there’s a chance that Love is just having a bad run and that he will return to Earth in 2024.
But Brian Gutekunst doesn’t appear to be concerned about that. He has expressed his desire for a deal to be completed prior to training camp.
“We’re currently having those discussions,” Gutekunst stated in June. The good thing about this is that while neither of these things is often simple or quick, both sides are seeking the same outcome. Without a doubt, we’d like to finish this before training camp. The goal of the contract renewal is shared by both parties.
The Packers may begin focusing on winning a Super Bowl in 2024 if they can secure long-term contracts for Clark and Love prior to training camp.
