**NBA Rumors: Raptors Acquire Davion Mitchell, Vezenkov; Kings Get Jalen McDaniels**
As teams work to adjust their rosters ahead of the second round of the 2024 NBA draft on Thursday, the Toronto Raptors and Sacramento Kings have agreed to a three-player trade.
According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Raptors will receive Davion Mitchell and Sasha Vezenkov, while Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium reports that the Kings will acquire Jalen McDaniels.
This trade will save the Kings nearly $8.4 million against the cap for the 2024-25 season. McDaniels is set to earn $4.7 million next year, whereas Vezenkov and Mitchell will make a combined $13.1 million.
This deal follows Sacramento’s agreement to a four-year, $78 million contract with Malik Monk, which will be signed when free agency begins, as per Wojnarowski.
Monk’s contract would have pushed the Kings over the first luxury tax apron, but this trade will place them just over $7 million below the $171.3 million threshold.
The Kings now have access to the $12.95 million non-taxpayer mid-level exception and will avoid any trade restrictions by staying out of the first and second aprons.
McDaniels has the potential to become a valuable rotation player for head coach Mike Brown. Although he shot 46.5 percent from the field in his first three seasons, his efficiency dropped to 34.4 percent with the Raptors in 2023-24.
Toronto gains the opportunity to see if Mitchell can thrive in a new setting. Selected as the No. 9 overall pick in 2021, Mitchell’s role has diminished over the past two seasons after a promising rookie year where he averaged 11.5 points per game.
Vezenkov joined the NBA last season after being drafted by the Brooklyn Nets in 2017. The Kings acquired his draft rights from the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2022. He performed well in a limited role for Sacramento, averaging 5.4 points on 37.5 percent three-point shooting in 42 games.
There has been speculation that Vezenkov was considering returning to Europe for the 2024-25 season, as he might not have wanted to remain with the Kings.
