Newcastle owners about to hold meeting over signing ‘tremendous’ Arsenal player in January

The ownership of Newcastle United is reportedly planning a meeting in the near future to discuss their January transfer strategies, and they have shown interest in acquiring Arsenal’s Emile Smith Rowe. Smith Rowe, a highly talented English player, has demonstrated his skills in the Premier League but has struggled to secure a consistent spot in Arsenal’s starting lineup. Newcastle sees an opportunity in this situation.

The Northern Echo has disclosed that Newcastle United is eager to secure Emile Smith Rowe’s signature during the January transfer window. Amanda Staveley and Mehrdad Ghodoussi, the directors of the Magpies, are scheduled to meet with club chairman Yasir al-Rummayan before the end of the international break to deliberate on their transfer plans.

In the past summer, Smith Rowe was linked with a transfer away from Arsenal, but Mikel Arteta decided to retain him, a move praised by many Arsenal fans. Nevertheless, Smith Rowe has seen minimal playing time this season, having started just one game in the League Cup victory over Brentford last month.

Although Arsenal values him at £50 million, Arteta is reluctant to part with any of his players in January. This valuation presents a challenge for Newcastle, who may consider pursuing an initial loan deal with the possibility of a permanent transfer in the summer.

Smith Rowe finds himself behind several other players in the pecking order at Arsenal at the moment, with Kai Havertz, Martin Odegaard, and Fabio Vieira being preferred choices. However, considering the length of the season, Arsenal could still benefit from Smith Rowe’s contributions. When fully fit, the 23-year-old is considered one of the top attacking midfielders in the country, capable of scoring goals, providing assists, and making a significant impact in the attack – a quality that Arsenal could use.

Nonetheless, should Arsenal decide to make him available for transfer, Newcastle should actively pursue this opportunity in the January transfer window.
