5-Star Texas Defensive Line Commit Brandon Brown Flips to LSU

The Texas Longhorns have lost a significant recruit as four-star defensive lineman Brandon Brown announced his flip to the LSU Tigers on Friday. This comes after a period of strong recruiting momentum for Texas, which had secured 10 commitments since the beginning of April.

Brown, who stands 6-foot-2 and weighs 286 pounds, was originally the third commitment of Texas’ 2025 class, alongside quarterback KJ Lacey and tight end Emaree Winston. He had been committed to the Longhorns since December and was projected as an interior defensive lineman, making his departure a significant blow.

Brown’s decision to join LSU brings him under the guidance of former Texas defensive line coach Bo Davis, who transitioned to LSU this offseason. This shift follows another setback for Texas with the loss of five-star receiver Dakorien Moore.

With Brown’s departure, Texas now has no defensive tackle commits for the 2025 class, after securing just two in the 2024 cycle. The Longhorns have also missed out on other key prospects, including four-star Josiah Sharma, who committed to Oregon, and four-star Zion Williams, who chose LSU.

Brown is currently ranked as the No. 331 player nationally, the No. 27 defensive lineman in the country, and the No. 46 player in Florida according to the On3 industry ranking. He is regarded as a composite four-star recruit by On3 and Rivals.com, while 247Sports and ESPN rank him as a three-star prospect.
