**Dallas Mavericks Officially Announce Trade with Detroit Pistons to Acquire Quentin Grimes**
Today marks the first day that recent NBA offseason signings and trades can become official. The Dallas Mavericks have formally announced their trade with the Detroit Pistons, where they send Tim Hardaway Jr. and three second-round picks in exchange for Quentin Grimes. This move relieves the Mavericks of around $12 million in salary, which will be allocated elsewhere. The second-round picks included in the trade are a 2025 Toronto pick, a 2028 Miami Heat pick, and the less favorable 2028 pick between the Charlotte Hornets and LA Clippers.
Grimes will wear No. 5 with the Mavericks, a number previously worn by Tyler Dorsey, head coach Jason Kidd during his first stint with the team, and former All-Star Josh Howard.
The Pistons initially acquired Grimes in a trade that sent Bojan Bogdanovic and Alec Burks to the New York Knicks at the trade deadline. Grimes only appeared in six games for Detroit due to a knee issue, but the Mavericks hope he has recovered. If Grimes can return to his form with the Knicks, where he averaged 8.6 PPG and shot 37.9% from three-point range, he could be a valuable addition to the Mavericks’ rotation as a strong defender.
The Mavericks might also announce the acquisitions of Klay Thompson and Naji Marshall today. Although there were rumors of expanding the trade to include five teams involving Klay Thompson, the trade proceeded as initially reported.
