Breaking: New York Yankees Confirm As Landing Spot For Excellent Left-Handed Closer

**Yankees Eye Left-Handed Closer Tanner Scott**

The New York Yankees are expected to be highly active in the bullpen market, with MLB insider Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic mentioning on Foul Territory that they are among the teams interested in Miami Marlins’ left-handed closer Tanner Scott. Scott has impressed this season with a 1.42 ERA across 37 outings, making him a sought-after asset this July. The Yankees could significantly benefit from his swing-and-miss capabilities at the backend of their bullpen.

Tanner Scott, with a 1.42 ERA and a 27.3% strikeout rate in 37 appearances, has been a key high-leverage option for Miami. His performance over the last two seasons, with the highest fWAR (3.3) and Win Probability Added (+6.74) among relievers, is bolstered by his dominant fastball and slider.

The Yankees, struggling with left-handed relievers who have a combined -0.5 fWAR and 4.16 ERA across 67 innings, could use Scott’s expertise. Recent acquisitions Victor Gonzalez and Caleb Ferguson have underperformed, with Ferguson’s ERA over 5.00 and Gonzalez now in Triple-A.

As Scott is set to become a free agent after the 2024 season, the Marlins, known for their frugal spending and poor 2024 record, are likely to trade him. This aligns with Rosenthal’s report that Miami will deal players who can bring a return. With Yankees’ relievers Clay Holmes and Tommy Kahnle approaching free agency, Scott could be a valuable addition. However, the Yankees will face competition from other teams also seeking pitching help, and must have backup plans if they can’t secure Scott this summer.
