Alex Barré-Boulet Signs One-Year Contract with Montreal Canadiens
Amid the flurry of high-profile free agency signings, Montreal Canadiens GM Kent Hughes opted for a more modest move by signing Alex Barré-Boulet to a one-year contract with an average annual value of $775,000.
Barré-Boulet, 27, has spent his entire professional career with the Tampa Bay Lightning organization, mainly in the AHL with the Syracuse Crunch. He has also played 68 NHL games, tallying 18 points. With his new NHL deal, Barré-Boulet will have the option to play for the Canadiens, but he is expected to spend most of his time in the minors with the Laval Rocket.
In the 2022-23 season with Syracuse, Barré-Boulet scored 24 goals and 60 assists in 69 games. Hughes hopes he can maintain this level of performance for the Canadiens’ AHL affiliate.
