Good News: Tennessee Vols Confirm The Signing Of Another Potential-Filled Star

The Tennessee men’s tennis team is set to welcome Alejandro Moreno for the 2024–25 campaign, as announced by head coach Chris Woodruff on Thursday.

Moreno, a Knoxville native, played his first two collegiate seasons at Auburn University, where he amassed an impressive 33-26 singles record and a 26-22 doubles record. His performance in the dual season of 2024 was notable, achieving an 11-9 record while primarily competing at the No. 3 and No. 4 courts in singles matches.

Moreno’s accomplishments extend beyond his win-loss record. During his freshman year with the Auburn Tigers, he was selected as an ITA Scholar Athlete and made the First-Year SEC Academic Honor Roll. His stellar performance on the court earned him a spot on the SEC All-Freshman team, underscoring his potential and talent from an early stage in his collegiate career.

“Adding local talent to our roster is very important to us,” stated head coach Chris Woodruff. “We are thrilled that Alejandro will be joining Tennessee. Alejandro has also demonstrated success in our league, and we look forward to supporting him as he grows.”

In his sophomore year at Auburn, Moreno achieved a career-best ITA singles rating of 65th during the fall slate, showcasing his continual development and competitive edge. This ranking highlighted his prowess and potential to compete at high levels within collegiate tennis.

Before entering the collegiate circuit, Moreno was a highly regarded player coming out of high school. He was ranked as the best player in Tennessee, fourth in the Southeast, and eleventh nationally, which speaks volumes about his skill and dedication to the sport.

As Alejandro Moreno joins the Tennessee men’s tennis team, there is great anticipation for his contributions both on and off the court. His local roots and proven track record make him a valuable addition to the team, aligning with Coach Woodruff’s vision of cultivating local talent and achieving success within the league. The future looks promising for both Moreno and the Tennessee men’s tennis program as they embark on this new chapter together.
