Boston Bruins Sign Defensemen Michael Callahan and Alec Regula to One-Year Contracts

 

The Boston Bruins have signed defensemen Michael Callahan and Alec Regula to one-year, two-way contracts, each with an NHL cap hit of $775,000.

Michael Callahan, 24, tallied four goals and 13 assists for 17 points in 70 games last season with the Providence Bruins, the club’s AHL affiliate. The 6-foot-2 defenseman has played 140 career AHL games, accumulating six goals and 21 assists for 27 points. Before his professional career, Callahan spent four seasons with the Providence Friars, scoring 13 goals and 53 assists for 66 points in 138 games. Drafted by the Arizona Coyotes in the fifth round of the 2018 NHL Entry Draft, Callahan also played in the USHL, recording three goals and 15 assists in 61 games with the Youngstown Phantoms, Central Illinois Flying Aces, and Bloomington Thunder.

 

Alec Regula, 23, recorded four goals and 22 assists for 26 points in 55 games with Providence in the 2023-24 season. The 6-foot-4 defender has played 163 career AHL games, scoring 16 goals and 61 assists for 77 points. Before joining the Bruins, Regula spent three seasons with the Chicago Blackhawks, appearing in 22 NHL games. He also played over 100 games with the Rockford IceHogs, the Blackhawks’ AHL affiliate. During his AHL career, Regula has amassed 16 goals and 61 assists in 163 games. Prior to turning professional, Regula played three seasons with the London Knights in the OHL, where he scored 45 goals and 79 assists for 124 points in 189 games. His final season with the Knights saw him post 27 goals and 33 assists for 60 points in 56 games before the season was cut short by the COVID-19 pandemic.
