JUST IN:West Ham United will try to sign Premier League Star in January

West Ham want to sign Manchester United defender Harry Maguire in January after their failed move in the summer, according to The Mirror.

The Hammers agreed a £30m fee with the Red Devils for the England international, but couldn’t agree personal terms and a deal fell through although Maguire has denied that there was ever an agreement in place.

However after failing to break into Erik Ten Hag’s plans once again this season David Moyes is considering returning for another move for the 30-year-old, who could be more open with his place in England’s squad for Euro 2024 up in the air.

“West Ham will try to sign Harry Maguire again in January – with the defender keen to secure his spot in England’s Euro 2024 squad,” they wrote.

“A move to the London Stadium in January could reignite Maguire’s career ahead of the tournament in Germany. It’s believed West Ham are still keen on the former Leicester star and could swoop for him if the opportunity arises in the next transfer window.

“It’s unclear whether West Ham would make a loan or permanent bid for Maguire.”
Maguire has been a controversial figure for a little while now because of his performances at Manchester United after his £80m move to Old Trafford.

He was quickly made captain but his performances suffered and then he lost his place after Ten Hag’s arrival, but Gareth Southgate has continued to pick him in his England squad despite a real lack of minutes.

A move to West Ham would no doubt help him get more regular football and help to justify his place in Southgate’s plans, but whether he’d be willing to step down (in his eyes) for more regular football remains to be seen.

West Ham signed Dinos Mavropanos in the summer after this deal collapsed, but there are question marks about the future of Nayef Aguerd and Kurt Zouma after interest from Saudi Arabia in January.

If the right situation arises that a deal can be done it would be a boost to West Ham’s hopes in the second half of the season, and it seems like they’re ready to make it happen.
