After spending nine years at Manchester United, Anthony Elanga has shared his thoughts on his transfer to Nottingham Forest for £15 million. The 21-year-old was eager to secure more playing time, as his previous season at Old Trafford was relatively quiet, with him mostly warming the bench during Erik ten Hag’s first term in charge.
Nottingham Forest quickly expressed their interest in Elanga, and following their narrow escape from relegation in the late stages of the 2022/2023 campaign, Steve Cooper was determined to revamp his squad for another season in the top flight.
Elanga was just one of the new faces introduced at the City Ground during the transfer window. The Swedish international has already made eight appearances in the Premier League, contributing one goal and one assist. His debut goal was a memorable one, coming in a remarkable 1-0 victory over Chelsea in early September at Stamford Bridge.
Elanga, now settled in the Midlands, has drawn comparisons between his new club and his former one, stating in an interview with Fotballskanalen: “Nottingham [Forest] are still a historically great team. They’ve won two Champions Leagues [European Cups], so you could say I’ve transitioned from one major team to another. The distinction isn’t all that significant.” He went on to say, “We’ve had a positive start in the league, winning some games, drawing a few, and losing a couple. It’s a great team, a great city, and talented players. The season is long, and hopefully, we can have a successful one.”
