Sad News: Just In Boston Bruins Confirm Departure Of Another Important Superstar

Oskar Steen, who was drafted by the Boston Bruins in the sixth round of the 2016 NHL Draft, has officially departed from the team as of Saturday. He has signed a five-year contract with Farjestad BK, a prominent team in the Swedish Hockey League (SHL). This marks a significant return to his home country for the 26-year-old forward, who had previously played for Farjestad BK before embarking on his NHL journey.

Steen’s career with the Bruins spanned portions of four seasons, from 2020 to 2024, during which he played a total of 60 regular-season games. In these appearances, he managed to score four goals and accumulate eight points. Despite not having a standout record in the NHL, Steen’s contributions were notable for a player drafted in the later rounds, and he brought energy and effort to each game he played.

Prior to his stint in the NHL, Steen had already made a name for himself in the SHL with Farjestad BK. His performance there led to his entry-level three-year contract with the Boston Bruins, signed on May 3, 2019. This move to North America included extensive playtime with the American Hockey League’s Providence Bruins. Over the course of 221 games in the AHL, Steen demonstrated his skills by recording 53 goals and 63 assists, showcasing his ability to contribute offensively and proving himself as a reliable player at the professional level.

Steen’s return to Farjestad BK and the SHL suggests a full-circle moment in his career. Standing at 5-foot-10 and weighing 195 pounds, he will bring his experience and developed skills back to Sweden, where his professional journey began. His new five-year contract indicates a long-term commitment to the SHL, likely marking the remainder of his playing career. This move not only highlights Steen’s dedication to the sport but also underscores the international nature of hockey careers, where players often transition between leagues across different countries.
