Newcastle United’s ties to Arsenal’s Emile Smith Rowe aren’t going away.
Newcastle have been connected with the out-of-favour 23-year-old Arsenal midfielder, with various media outlets claiming Eddie Howe will make a January move for Emile Smith Rowe.
Smith Rowe appears to have fallen out of favor under Mikel Arteta, appearing as a late replacement in just two Premier League outings for Arsenal this season.
The England international is clearly unhappy by his lack of playing time and has thus lost his spot in Gareth Southgate’s squad. With all of this in mind, Smith Rowe is widely expected to make a January move.
If Newcastle made a move, it would most likely be on loan with an option to buy in the summer.
Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, however, is unsure where the rumours are coming from, noting in his Daily Briefing for Caught Offside:
“Emile Smith Rowe – Inventor” This is a name that keeps coming up, but I’m not aware of any concrete talks with Newcastle at this time; let’s see what happens closer to the January window.
“As I always mentioned, Newcastle are not advancing on any signing now as it’s crucial for them to understand if they will be in UCL in the second part of the season before moving.”
Fabrizio Romano generally has his finger on the pulse, so I trust him when he says there hasn’t been any movement from Newcastle’s side.
Newcastle would be well to wait and see if they are still in contention for the Champions League before making any moves in the summer season.
