Salernitana sent Wolves clear January transfer message over striker Boulaye Dia

Wolves have been informed that their summer transfer target, Boulaye Dia, will not be made available for sale during the upcoming January transfer window.

Wolves made a late effort to acquire the services of the striker on the final day of the transfer window, but their bid was rejected by his club, Salernitana. Subsequently, Dia was omitted from the squad for the next Serie A match against Lecce and was sidelined for the following two games due to injury.

Dia has since returned to the team and has participated in the last three league matches. However, he has not been able to score a goal since Wolves expressed their interest in him. So far this season, Dia has only found the back of the net once, which was in a 1-1 draw with Udinese in August.

After the rejection of Wolves’ interest, Salernitana’s director, Morgan De Sanctis, seemed to criticize the club for their last-minute attempt. He mentioned, “The last few days of the transfer market were the most complicated. It was not our intention, as we had already concluded our dealings. These were chaotic hours because someone tried to handle things at the eleventh hour.”

De Sanctis continued, “Regarding Dia, I want to convey a message, emphasizing that we expect respect for Salernitana, for me, for the club’s history, and its supporters. We received a late phone call on Thursday night discussing a loan deal with an option to buy, for figures that, if disclosed, would create a diplomatic incident. None of their executives contacted me directly, and this had an impact on Dia. We anticipate the player to acknowledge the support we’ve provided, as we desire a relationship of mutual respect and hope to continue as we have for the past year. I can state that I, the president, and all of Salernitana won’t forget Wolverhampton’s actions.”

Now, the president of the Italian club, Danilo Iervolino, has issued a definitive statement regarding Dia’s availability in the January transfer window. He stated, “The matter is closed, it’s concluded,” in reference to Wolves’ attempt to secure the player in January, as reported by Fabrizio Romano. The president also added, “Dia will remain with Salernitana.”
