**Detroit Tigers Claim Easton Lucas from Athletics**
The Detroit Tigers have acquired left-handed reliever Easton Lucas off waivers from the Oakland Athletics. This move led to right-handed reliever Ty Adcock, who was picked up from the Seattle Mariners in mid-April, being designated for assignment to make room for Lucas on the 40-man roster.
Lucas has been assigned to Triple-A Toledo.
The 27-year-old Lucas has played for both Triple-A Las Vegas and the Athletics during the 2024 season. In 11 Triple-A games, he posted a 2.87 ERA with eight walks and 13 strikeouts over 15⅔ innings. However, he struggled in the majors, allowing six runs in 3⅔ innings over three games from the Athletics’ bullpen.
Lucas, who has three minor-league options remaining, has had difficulties in the big leagues, with a 10.45 ERA in 10⅓ innings over nine relief appearances across two seasons. He has given up 12 earned runs, walked seven, and struck out 13.
In 2024, Lucas utilized a five-pitch mix: his four-seam fastball averaged 94.2 mph, cutter at 90.5 mph, slider at 83.1 mph, changeup at 86.8 mph, and sinker at 93.9 mph. His four-seam fastball has been effective this season.
The Tigers are Lucas’s fourth organization in his professional career. Drafted by the Miami Marlins in the 14th round of the 2019 draft from Pepperdine, he was traded to the Baltimore Orioles for infielder Jonathan Villar in December 2019. Lucas was then traded to the Athletics for right-handed reliever Shintaro Fujinami in July 2023.
Adcock can be outrighted to Triple-A Toledo if he clears waivers, allowing the Tigers to keep him in the organization. In Triple-A Toledo, Adcock has a 9.00 ERA with three walks and nine strikeouts over six innings.
