West Bromwich Albion’s Jeremy Sarmiento, who was loan from Brighton during this summer’s transfer window, is currently sidelined due to injury but aims to make his return at the end of October. Sarmiento is eager to play a significant role for West Brom once he completes his recovery from a quad injury sustained earlier this month. The Ecuadorian winger, on a season-long loan deal from Brighton, has made ten appearances and scored one goal.
Sarmiento suffered a muscle injury after his cameo appearance in the impressive 4-0 victory over Preston North End at the end of last month, which has added him to the growing list of injured players. Carlos Corberan confirmed the injury and estimated a four-week absence, with a potential return scheduled for the game against Coventry City in a couple of weeks if his rehabilitation progresses as planned. When he returns to action, whether it’s this month or the next, Sarmiento is eager to accumulate as many minutes as possible.
In his own words, Sarmiento expressed his anticipation of rejoining the team, emphasizing the importance of gaining match fitness and minutes for his recovery and development. He stated, “I’m really looking forward to being back in the team. There’s not much time left to get back on the pitch. As you know, with Brighton, the plan was to get that habit of playing again, getting minutes, which is what is going to do me the most good for these injuries. That’s what we’re doing now. When I’m well again, I imagine I’ll be playing a lot more minutes, which is good for the national team as well.”
Sarmiento views his move to the Championship for this loan spell as a valuable opportunity to prove his capability to play regular football at a high level. He sees it as a necessary step to advance his career, valuing the coaching and guidance he receives from his temporary manager, Corberan. Sarmiento remains patient and believes that his best is yet to come, despite the challenges he has faced.
