West Ham will have to move quickly if they want to beat the likes of Arsenal, Manchester United and Tottenham to the signature of Kerem Akturkoglu after Spurs contacted Galatasaray about his availability, according to Aksam.
The Turkish news outlet shared on 16 October that Tottenham have asked for information from Galatasaray and requested a meeting with the player if permission was given, while Arsenal are also seriously interested.
The Hammers were linked with Akturkoglu by Turkish outlet Fotomac [10 October], who claimed the club were considering the Turkish international as one of their key midfield targets.
Akturkoglu has three goals and four assists in just eight Turkish Super Lig games so far this season, as well as two goals and two assists in the Champions League, including a goal in the dramatic 3-2 win at Old Trafford on 3 October.
He has proved he can do a job against one of the biggest teams in England, and if he can translate that performance into regular Premier League displays with West Ham then the club would certainly have a gem on their hands.
The competition from the likes of Tottenham, Arsenal and Manchester United would likely make a deal hard to pull off, and the depth in attack at West Ham, with Jarrod Bowen, Mohammed Kudus, Lucas Paqueta and more rule out the chance of a guaranteed starting place at the London Stadium.
With Tottenham already having made official contact with the Turkish side and with a view to speaking to the player, they appear to have jumped ahead in the race for Akturkcoglu’s signature.
West Ham will have to move quickly if they want to get this deal done ahead of their London rivals, but given the depth of the squad and their relative success, it does feel unlikely that the Hammers would pip Spurs to this one.
