**Ullmark Traded to Senators by Bruins for Korpisalo, 1st-Round Pick**
The Boston Bruins have traded goaltender Linus Ullmark to the Ottawa Senators in exchange for Joonas Korpisalo, Mark Kastelic, and a first-round pick in the 2024 NHL Draft.
Ullmark, 30, posted a 22-10-7 record this season with a 2.57 goals-against average, a .915 save percentage, and two shutouts across 40 regular-season games (39 starts). In the playoffs, he had a 0-1 record with a 3.90 GAA and a .886 save percentage in two games (one start).
The Ottawa Senators, who hired Travis Green as their new coach on May 7, are an emerging team, according to Ullmark. “It’s a very young but exciting team,” he said. “They have a lot of speed and skill. They played solid games against us, and if we can build on that with the new coaching staff, we could become a very dangerous team.”
Ullmark has one year left on his four-year, $20 million contract ($5 million AAV) with the Bruins, which he signed on July 28, 2021. Senators general manager Steve Staois indicated that discussions about a long-term deal for Ullmark will be a priority moving forward.
Ullmark won the Vezina Trophy as the NHL’s top goaltender last season with a 40-6-1 record, a 1.89 GAA, and a .938 save percentage over 49 regular-season games (48 starts). Despite his success, he was replaced by Jeremy Swayman for Game 7 of the Eastern Conference First Round against the Florida Panthers, which Boston lost in overtime.
Bruins general manager Don Sweeney commented on the trade, noting, “Linus was a great addition to the Bruins, but with both goalies wanting to play 55 games, it was challenging unless someone was injured. We wish him well and believe the additions of Mark and Joonas will strengthen our team in different areas.”
