ESPN Sad News Report: Kevin O’Connell Confirm Another Major Setbacks With Another Top Experienced Superstar Now Season Ending Injury During Training

Kevin O’Connell Gives Update on Shaq Griffin’s Injury

The situation isn’t as serious as initially feared.

Just a day after losing one of their top cornerbacks to a season-ending injury, the Minnesota Vikings faced another setback at the same position during practice. Thankfully, it seems the team may have avoided a major injury this time.

On Thursday, veteran cornerback Shaq Griffin intercepted a pass but then went down with a leg injury. He managed to leave the field on his own but did not return, indicating a possible foot or ankle issue. On Saturday, head coach Kevin O’Connell provided an update on Griffin’s condition.

“Shaq is dealing with a soft-tissue injury in his left leg,” O’Connell told reporters. “We’re monitoring him closely to determine whether he’ll be day-to-day or if it might take a week or so, given it’s early in camp. We’ll have him work with Vice President of Player Health and Performance Tyler Williams and the team, hoping to get him back as soon as possible. I’ll keep everyone informed about his recovery timeline,” he added.

The Vikings’ cornerback depth was already strained after promising second-year player Mekhi Blackmon tore his ACL in the first practice, resulting in his placement on injured reserve and ending his season. With cornerback being a critical position, further injuries could significantly impact the team.

O’Connell noted that the Vikings might need to bring in additional players to fill the gap and balance the roster. There’s potential to add a veteran cornerback, such as Stephon Gilmore or Xavien Howard, both of whom have connections to defensive coordinator Brian Flores. However, it’s still uncertain if the team will pursue this option.
