The Miami Dolphins are adding another veteran wide receiver to their already impressive roster, which includes Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle, and Odell Beckham Jr. This move aims to further support quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, who recently signed a $212 million contract.
The Dolphins’ latest acquisition is Willie Snead IV, who had a tumultuous offseason with the San Francisco 49ers. The 49ers have faced criticism from several players this year, including Arik Armstead, Brandon Aiyuk, Kyle Juszczyk, and Willie Snead IV, who expressed dissatisfaction with the team’s management.
The Dolphins announced they have released defensive tackle Mario Kendricks to make room for Snead. Snead, a nine-year NFL veteran, has previously played for San Francisco (2022-23), Carolina (2021), Las Vegas (2021), Baltimore (2018-20), and New Orleans (2014-17).
He also spent time on Carolina’s practice squad in 2014 after training camp with Cleveland. Over his career, Snead has appeared in 103 games with 48 starts, accumulating 281 receptions for 3,445 yards and 16 touchdowns. He entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with Cleveland in 2014 after playing college football at Ball State.
Snead had voiced frustrations with the 49ers, criticizing them for what he perceived as an “entitlement” issue within the team. On social media, he expressed a desire to join a team that values competition for roster spots, suggesting that the 49ers’ environment was stifling. Snead even hinted at a preference to play in the AFC North. Following online backlash from 49ers fans, Snead deleted his social media account.
Now joining the AFC East, Snead will face stiff competition for playing time on a Dolphins team that boasts a deep receiving corps.
