**5-Star Edge Rusher Jared Smith Discusses His Auburn Commitment**
Five-star edge rusher Jared Smith has revealed why he chose to commit to Auburn football this weekend. Smith’s decision comes as Auburn celebrates a strong recruiting period, particularly following Big Cat Weekend. The Tigers have secured commitments from several key players for both the 2024 and 2025 classes, including 4-star cornerback Blake Woodby, and flipped two recruits from rival Alabama—wide receiver Derick Smith and defensive lineman Antonio Coleman. Additionally, 4-star safety Anquon Fegans also committed recently.
Smith, from Alabaster, Alabama, and a product of Thompson High School, held a commitment ceremony in Birmingham on Saturday. His poster initially displayed the logos of USC, South Carolina, Auburn, Florida State, Georgia, and Ole Miss, but after revealing his choice, it showed a childhood photo of Smith with an Auburn hat surrounded by family in Alabama gear.
For Smith, Auburn was always the top choice. “I’m an underdog,” Smith said, reflecting on his preference for Auburn despite Alabama’s dominance, citing the memorable “Kick Six” game as a pivotal moment. His commitment was influenced by Auburn’s linebackers coach Josh Aldridge, head coach Hugh Freeze, and the positive experiences during his visits to the campus.
Smith, ranked as the #2 edge rusher and #2 recruit in Alabama for the 2025 class, has elevated Auburn’s recruiting class to #5 nationally. His commitment makes him the highest-ranked player in Auburn’s 2025 class, surpassing defensive lineman Malik Autry.
