‘I Loved Being Manager Of That Club’; Ange Postecoglou Reflects On Time At Celtic
Former Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou has been reflecting on the time he spent with the club. In two years in Glasgow, the Aussie gaffer won five trophies in what was a vastly successful spell.
Eventually, he was tempted down South by Spurs but one cannot deny the colossal turnaround job he had done with the Hoops. Throughout the process, supporters stuck by Ange, and this is something he will be forever grateful for.
The 58-year-old admitted the backing from the fans meant the world. He said (FourFourTwo via Daily Record): “It means everything because even in the tough beginning the fans were the ones who stuck by us and by me personally. The only way you can repay that is to give them great memories, an experience that will stay with them.”
It is certain that Postecoglou and his Celtic players gave the fans the memories he wanted. For many supporters, the former Yokohama F. Marinos’ boss’ spell in charge of the champions was the most memorable of any gaffer in their lifetimes.
Personally for Postecoglou, too, the club did a lot and gave him his first big breakthrough in management. He thoroughly enjoyed his time at Parkhead: “It was an unbelievable two years for me – I loved being manager of that club.”
It seems there is no bad blood between the treble-winning manager and the club he left behind in the summer. At the time there may have been a sour taste left in the mouths of some supporters, although by now, many have left those feelings in the dark.
Postecoglou will be remembered as a Celtic great and although he spent just 24 months in Glasgow, his impact on the club was colossal.
