Deuce Knight, a quarterback recruit to Notre Dame, is being compared to Lamar Jackson and may shortly transfer to Auburn.
One of the most explosive quarterbacks in college football history, Lamar Jackson has continued to succeed in the NFL, winning MVP in 2023. Jackson was the Louisville Cardinals’ 2016 Heisman Trophy winner while still in college.
What were the college stats of Lamar Jackson?
Jackson was unique in college and remains so in the NFL because of his dual threat abilities. In 2016, Jackson’s Heisman campaign saw him throw for 3,543 yards and 30 touchdowns. He gained 21 touchdowns and 1,571 more yards through running.
Even if he was better now than he was in college, former Virginia Tech quarterback Michael Vick compared Jackson to himself.
Even though Vick and Jackson were in different leagues and we believed that kind of quarterback play would never happen again, Deuce Knight, a four-star 2025 high school recruit, has been bringing attention to the position.
Where will Deuce Knight play football in college?
In September 2023, Knight made a commitment to Notre Dame and head coach Marcus Freeman; however, there are rumors that he may be switching to the Auburn Tigers. Hugh Freeze, the head coach of the Tigers, has been recruiting quite well these past few months, so this shouldn’t come as a surprise. According to On3, Freeze has moved the Tigers up to the sixth-ranked class in the nation for 2025.
Knight would solve the conundrum of the Tigers’ class, since it appears that the only position still unfilled is quarterback.
What are Deuce Knight’s statistics from high school?
Since his sophomore year, Knight has been the starting quarterback for George County High School in Lucedale, Mississippi. In 2024, he will begin his final season as a senior. Knight has passed for 3,536 yards and 26 touchdowns in his first two years of play. He has 22 touchdowns and 832 more yards gained through running.
Even though it’s only high school and not college, Jackson and Knight’s numbers and playing styles are strikingly comparable, so if Knight did decide to transfer to the Tigers, it would be exciting to watch in the SEC.
