The Pittsburgh Pirates have traded pitcher Quinn Priester to the Boston Red Sox in exchange for infielder prospect Nick Yorke. Priester, 23, was the 18th overall pick by the Pirates in the 2019 MLB Draft. This season, he has a 2-6 record with a 5.04 ERA across 44.2 innings, and he has recorded 31 strikeouts.
Nick Yorke, a 22-year-old second baseman, was drafted by the Red Sox with the 17th overall pick in the 2020 MLB Draft. He has not yet debuted in the majors. According to a Pirates media release, Yorke is currently ranked as Boston’s No. 6 prospect by MLB Pipeline.
In 320 minor league at-bats this season, Yorke has posted a .278 batting average, along with 53 runs, 10 home runs, 46 RBI, and 14 stolen bases.
Pirates General Manager Ben Cherington commented, “Nick has been a strong offensive performer and versatile defender in the minor leagues. We are excited to add him to our upper-level position player group.”
Yorke will be assigned to Triple-A Indianapolis.
