**Texas Longhorns Secure 2025 Five-Star WR Kaliq Lockett, Shifting Momentum from Alabama and LSU**
Steve Sarkisian is making significant strides in recruiting for the 2025 class, with the Texas Longhorns recently landing a commitment from five-star wide receiver Kaliq Lockett.
Originally from Sachse, Texas, Lockett has decided to join the Longhorns despite interest from top SEC programs LSU and Alabama. Ranked as the No. 3 wide receiver and No. 17 overall player in the 2025 class, Lockett is also the No. 6 prospect from Texas, according to On3.
In addition to Texas, Lockett had offers from several other major programs, including Texas A&M, Florida State, Michigan, Ohio State, and Oregon.
On3 had Texas as the strong favorites for his commitment with an 83.3% chance, while Alabama and LSU had lower probabilities at 4.6% and 1.3%, respectively.
Lockett, who will be the first wide receiver in Texas’ 2025 recruiting class, joins five-star quarterback K.J. Lacey as part of the Longhorns’ future lineup. Heading into his senior year, Lockett stands 6-foot-1.5 and weighs 175 pounds. During his junior season, he recorded 59 receptions for 1,299 yards and 13 touchdowns.
As a five-star recruit, Lockett holds the highest rating of 96.67 among Texas’ 2025 commitments. His projected NIL value is estimated to be around $315,000.
