Official Maple Leafs News: Toronto Maple Leafs Officail Announced Departure Of Another Top Star Following Contract Dispute

**Trade Proposal: Red Wings Acquiring Mitch Marner from Maple Leafs**

Mitch Marner, a star forward for the Toronto Maple Leafs, has been featured in recent trade speculation, with one proposal suggesting a move to the Detroit Red Wings. Marner, who is entering the final year of his six-year, $65.4 million contract, has become a sought-after trade target due to the Maple Leafs’ recent playoff shortcomings.

The trade proposal, created using PuckPedia’s new PuckGM tool, involves the Red Wings acquiring Marner in exchange for several assets. According to the proposal:

**Red Wings Receive:**
– Mitch Marner

**Maple Leafs Receive:**
– Lucas Raymond
– Jonatan Berggren
– William Wallinder
– 2025 Second-Round Pick

This potential trade could be a significant move for both teams. Detroit would gain a premier forward in Marner, which could bolster their young roster and boost their playoff aspirations. On the other hand, Toronto would receive promising young talent, including Raymond, a 22-year-old forward drafted fourth overall by the Red Wings in 2020. Although Raymond is a restricted free agent and contract negotiations have been challenging, he would be a key part of the trade.

In addition to Raymond, the Maple Leafs would get Berggren, a 24-year-old who could contribute as a bottom-six forward, and Wallinder, a defenseman selected in the second round of the 2020 NHL Draft, projected to be a second or third-pairing defenseman. The deal would also include a second-round pick to complete the trade for Marner. However, for Detroit to pursue this deal, they would likely need Marner to agree to a contract extension to ensure his long-term presence with the Red Wings.

**Red Wings’ Contract Negotiations with Raymond**

The Red Wings have not yet finalized a contract extension with Raymond, causing some concern among fans. However, Red Wings head coach Derek Lalonde remains unfazed. “I’m not worried,” Lalonde said. “It’s all part of the process.”

Raymond had an impressive season last year, playing all 82 games and recording 31 goals and 41 assists for 72 points. Lalonde noted Raymond’s significant development over the past year. “He came back as a different athlete,” Lalonde commented, attributing his growth to both physical maturation and skill enhancement.

**Marner’s Future in Toronto**

Marner, who was drafted by the Maple Leafs with the fourth overall pick in the 2015 NHL Draft, has expressed his desire to remain with his hometown team. “I’ve expressed my love for this place,” Marner said on May 6. “It means the world to me.” Last season, Marner tallied 26 goals and 59 assists for 85 points in 69 games.
