Nick Foles, the Super Bowl LII MVP, has announced his retirement from the NFL at age 35.
Foles, who led the Philadelphia Eagles to their first Super Bowl victory, will retire as an Eagle. The team has scheduled a tribute for him during their 2024 home opener on September 16.
Foles spent the 2022 season with the Indianapolis Colts, where he made three appearances. He was the third quarterback used by the Colts that season, starting in Week 16 against the Los Angeles Chargers and continuing the following week against the New York Giants. In those games, he accumulated 224 yards and threw four interceptions.
The Colts released Foles in May 2023, and despite his Pro Bowl credentials from 2013, his future in the league was uncertain. Foles admitted to the Philadelphia Inquirer’s Kerith Gabriel that he had considered retirement almost every offseason.
With no offers in the 2023 season or the following offseason, Foles decided to retire. Over his 11-season career, he amassed 14,227 passing yards, 82 touchdowns, and 47 interceptions in 71 games.
Foles’ standout year was in 2013 with the Eagles, where he led the NFL in passer rating with a 119.2 and had 27 touchdowns versus just two interceptions, earning a Pro Bowl selection.
However, his most memorable achievement was his Super Bowl performance in 2017. He threw for 971 yards, six touchdowns, and one interception in the postseason, including a 373-yard game in Super Bowl LII, where the Eagles defeated the New England Patriots 41-33. This run solidified Foles’ legendary status in Philadelphia sports history and earned him a place among NFL greats with his Super Bowl MVP honor.
