**Three Bruins Prospects at Risk of Being Traded if They Don’t Make the NHL Roster**
The Boston Bruins face some roster decisions before the 2024-25 season, particularly after the departure of key players like Jake DeBrusk, who signed with the Vancouver Canucks, and Linus Ullmark, who was traded to the Ottawa Senators. Additionally, Matt Grzelcyk, Danton Heinen, Derek Forbort, Pat Maroon, and Jakub Lauko have all moved on, with Lauko being traded and the others leaving via free agency.
Initially, the Bruins had three open spots for forwards and three for defensemen. After making significant moves in free agency, including signing Nikita Zadorov and Elias Lindholm, they now have two open spots at each position. The Providence Bruins have several prospects who could fill these spots, either immediately or in the future. Here are three players who are at risk of being traded if they don’t make the NHL roster:
**Forward – Fabian Lysell**
Lysell, a forward with a strong offensive profile, is one of the top candidates to fill a winger spot vacated by DeBrusk, Heinen, and Maroon. The 21-year-old Swede has struggled with injuries, which have impacted his ability to make an NHL impact and complete full AHL seasons. Despite being under contract through the 2025-26 season, Lysell needs to make a strong push to secure an NHL spot. If he fails to do so, the Bruins might consider trading him, especially given his impressive passing and speed.
**Goaltender – Brandon Bussi**
Bussi, who signed a two-way contract this offseason, needs to prove himself this season. Although he’s been considered NHL-ready and had a solid AHL season, he has yet to see significant action with the Bruins. Bussi faces competition from Jeremy Swayman and Joonas Korpisalo. As a tall goaltender at 6-foot-5, he must outshine Korpisalo to secure a backup role and avoid trade speculation.
**Defenseman – Michael Callahan**
Callahan, a veteran of three seasons with the Providence Bruins, is a candidate to make his NHL debut. After serving as an alternate captain in Providence and having a strong season with career highs in games, goals, and assists, he is a promising prospect. At 24 years old and having demonstrated leadership, Callahan needs to impress during training camp to earn a spot on the NHL roster. If he doesn’t, the Bruins may look to trade him while he still has value.

The Bruins’ training camp opens on September 18, and their first preseason game is scheduled for September 22 against the New York Rangers at 5:00 p.m. at TD Garden.
